[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Singapore has reported the highest number of new COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.

On the 28th, local media cited the Singapore Ministry of Health's announcement that the number of new cases the previous day was 5,324, an increase of more than 2,000 from the day before (3,277). This is the first time Singapore's daily cases have exceeded 5,000.

The Ministry of Health stated, "The number of confirmed cases is unusually high," and added, "We will closely monitor the trend over the coming days."

There were 10 deaths, with ages ranging from 50 to 90. Except for one, all were unvaccinated.

Singapore's vaccination completion rate is 84%, one of the highest in the world. Accordingly, the Singapore government adopted a 'With COVID-19' coexistence strategy starting in July.

However, as the number of confirmed cases surged to record levels, the existing quarantine regulations have been extended until the 21st of next month. Additionally, starting January next year, unvaccinated individuals will, in principle, be restricted from commuting to workplaces.
