LG Uplus-Korea Transport Institute to Create Autonomous Driving Public Data

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] LG Uplus announced on the 28th that it has signed a business agreement with the Korea Transport Institute to carry out a demonstration project for autonomous driving-based mobility services.

Both parties plan to conduct research and development projects to advance autonomous driving technology and services by utilizing public data accumulated through the demonstration of mobility services. They also aim to discover data-driven mobility policies to contribute to the growth of the mobility industry.

The public data from the Korea Transport Institute consists of ▲vehicle movement data (traffic volume, travel costs, road congestion costs, etc.) ▲human movement data (time-based traffic volume, floating population, regional travel time, etc.) ▲public transportation data (BIS data, route-level card data, etc.).

In March of this year, LG Uplus, together with the Korea Transport Institute, won the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Autonomous Driving Technology Development Innovation Project - Mobility Service Development Task for Transportation Vulnerable Support’ and is conducting joint autonomous driving research and development until 2026.

Joo Young-jun, Head of LG Uplus Next Generation Technology Lab, said, “This collaboration will be an opportunity to advance autonomous driving infrastructure technology through the synergy of Uplus’s 5G communication, dynamic maps, and the road/traffic data possessed by the Korea Transport Institute.”
