Supporting Completion of Police Reform Centered on Citizens and External Experts
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 27th at 3 p.m. that it launched the ‘Integrity Policy Council’ with the Jeonnam Police Agency leadership and integrity and anti-corruption experts attending at Namdo Maru on the 7th floor of the agency building, and held the 1st regular meeting.
This regular meeting was held to review the anti-corruption policies promoted by the Jeonnam police amid ongoing police reforms such as ‘investigation authority reform’ and ‘implementation of the autonomous police system,’ and to recommend necessary measures.
The Jeonnam Police Agency Integrity Policy Council consists of 17 members, including an external chairman and the Jeonnam Police Agency chief as co-chairmen, 8 external members who have interest and passion for police issues, and 9 members of the Jeonnam Police Agency leadership.
At the meeting, anti-corruption policies promoted by the Jeonnam police, such as the one-strike-out system for corruption, operation of the investigation system for occupational crimes, and the private contact control system, were shared, and opinions on future directions were actively exchanged in a lively atmosphere.
Kim Taeseong, a representative of a civic group and council member, said, “Attending the meeting made me realize how much the police have been thinking about improving integrity,” and added, “I will make efforts to enhance the police’s integrity policy promotion by paying more attention and gathering and conveying opinions from various sectors.”
Kim Jaegyu, chief of the Jeonnam Police Agency, expressed a strong will to promote anti-corruption policies, saying, “Establishing an honest and fair police image is more important than anything else to promote stable police reform. We will humbly accept the opinions of residents and experts and actively reflect them in policies, making every effort to leap forward as an advanced first-class integrity police force.”
The Jeonnam Police Agency Integrity Policy Council will hold regular meetings once every six months, but will also convene meetings as needed to present residents’ perspectives, order improvements to systems for enhancing integrity or preventing corruption in the Jeonnam police, or recommend measures to prevent recurrence in case of corruption incidents.
