Yeosu City Supports 50% of Passenger Ferry Fees to Geomundo for Non-Residents During Tourism Off-Season

Yeosu~Geomeunhangro Route Section... Expected to Boost Island Tourism for 6 Months from November This Year to April Next Year

Yeosu City Supports 50% of Passenger Ferry Fees to Geomundo for Non-Residents During Tourism Off-Season

[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do is implementing a project this year as well to offer a 50% discount on passenger fares to non-local residents using the Yeosu~Geomeun route during the tourism off-season.

According to the city, this year the 50% discount on passenger fares will be supported for six months from November to April next year, with Yeosu City covering 40% and the ferry company covering 10% of the cost.

During the peak tourism season, non-local residents using the Yeosu~Geomeun route for a round trip to Geomundo must pay 72,200 KRW, but during the off-season, they can use the service for 36,100 KRW round trip.

During this period, non-local residents using the Yeosu~Geomeun route can enjoy a half-price discount on passenger fares and freely enjoy tourism on Sonjukdo, Chodo, Geomundo, and other islands.

However, the passenger fare discount benefit is not available when using the Nokdong~Geomeun route.

Since 2019, Yeosu City has been extending the passenger ferry fare support project for non-local residents on the Geomeun route by one month each year to promote continuous island tourism and revitalize the local economy during the tourism off-season.

Mayor Kwon Oh-bong of Yeosu said, “We will continuously strive to improve the conditions for using passenger ferries, which are the only maritime transportation in island areas,” and added, “We hope you heal your body and mind tired from COVID-19 in the untouched nature of Geomundo and the comfort the islands provide.”

Meanwhile, Yeosu citizens receive a 50% discount on all ferry routes in the Yeosu area, and island residents have been benefiting from the ‘Island Residents 1,000 KRW Fare System’ on all routes since last September.
