Livestock Distribution Startup 'Yukgram' CEO Lee Jong-geun
Plans Delivery Within 2 Hours in 3 Gangnam Districts of Seoul This Month
Industry's First Household Subscription Service Launched
"We will quickly provide high-quality meat tailored to customers' preferences by utilizing subscriptions and quick commerce (instant delivery)."
The livestock-specialized distribution startup 'Yukgram' offers customized services to customers through various delivery networks. Lee Jong-geun, CEO of Yukgram, said, "Just as TPO (time, place, occasion) is necessary when dressing, the same applies when eating meat," adding, "We propose package products suited to each situation, such as camping, dinner, or entertaining guests."
Yukgram is collaborating with Mesh Korea to promote online orders with delivery within two hours in the three districts of Gangnam, Seocho, and Songpa in Seoul starting from November. They also launched the industry's first subscription service that delivers a variety of meat packages tailored for 1-, 2-, and 4-person households, providing a month's supply of meat.
Yukgram employs a strategy that applies consumer needs and the latest trends to its business. Particularly notable are its fresh youthful sensibility and ideas, as well as the kindness in planning products from the customer's perspective. Consumers can reduce the time spent wondering "What kind of meat should I buy?" at butcher shops or supermarkets. For example, they select and provide meat that tastes good when cooked in an air fryer or meat suitable for a low-carb, high-fat diet.
They also introduce methods for storing meat, preparing it, and cooking different cuts. To perform cutting work immediately after ordering according to the consumer's desired condition, they have a meat processing plant in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, and a logistics center and workshop in Seongsu-dong, Seoul. The company name Yukgram carries the meaning of supplying good meat up to 1% of one geun (600g) of meat. They operate two brands: 'Majangdong Sododukdan,' which pursues the popularization of meat, and 'Sixgram,' which handles premium products.
To finalize product sales, the meat must pass a blind test in which employees directly participate. CEO Lee said, "The meat procured from the Majangdong wholesale and retail market undergoes tests to verify taste, price, and distinctiveness."
In the early days after founding in 2017, Lee personally roamed Majangdong to find suppliers. He proposed pioneering new sales channels by partnering with young startups and integrating online and digital technologies. As the company became known, it is now in a position to receive collaboration proposals. Lee said, "Since the COVID-19 pandemic, with the rise of camping and home cooking trends, many people have been looking for cost-effective meat," adding, "We will find ways to leverage our strengths to contribute to the domestic livestock distribution ecosystem."
