Contributing to the Spread of a Culture of Honoring Veterans through Monthly 100,000 Won Support and Expansion of Eligible Recipients
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that it has partially amended the ordinances on the treatment and support for national veterans and on the support for war veterans, expanding support for veterans eligible for benefits and raising the monthly veterans' and war veterans' honor allowances to 100,000 KRW starting January 2022.
Since 2010, the county has been providing war veterans' honor allowances to participants of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and from 2017, it began providing veterans' honor allowances to national veterans aged 65 and older.
The initial payment was 30,000 KRW in 2010, increased to 50,000 KRW in 2013, and to 70,000 KRW in 2018. Starting January next year, it will be raised by 30,000 KRW to 100,000 KRW per month.
Additionally, in accordance with the Act on Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons, starting next year, the scope of veterans' honor allowance recipients will be expanded (including recipients of the Order of Merit for National Foundation, families of public officials who died in the line of duty, spouses of those who died from Agent Orange-related illnesses, etc.), thereby contributing to the spread of a culture of honoring veterans by ensuring the treatment and stable retirement life of veterans and their families who sacrificed and contributed to the nation.
A Yeongam-gun official stated, "We will continue to do our best to respect the merits and patriotism of national veterans who devoted themselves and sacrificed their lives for the country, and to promote their honor and support."
