Stalking behavior refers to approaching or obstructing the path of the victim, their family, or cohabitants without justifiable reason and against their will. Waiting or watching near the residence also constitutes stalking.
The Stalking Punishment Act, enforced from the 21st, stipulates that those who commit stalking acts continuously or repeatedly may face imprisonment of up to three years. If the stalking crime involves carrying a weapon, the punishment can be imprisonment for up to five years.
The Women and Youth Investigation Guidance Division of the Busan Police Agency stated, “The police will implement protective measures for victims, including emergency and provisional actions, upon occurrence of stalking acts, and will immediately commence investigations and respond strictly when the acts qualify as stalking crimes.”
