[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has installed the social character 'Joayang' at the city hall.
On the 27th, Yongin City announced that it created and placed a 'Joayang' sculpture in the first-floor lobby to make visitors feel the city hall as a familiar and comfortable space.
The sculpture, measuring 1.6m in height and 1.2m in width, was installed in a photo zone for visitors. Five QR codes of the city's representative SNS channels were attached to the bottom of the sculpture to allow direct access to the desired channels.
Joayang is a dragon character created based on the dragon (龍) in the name of Yongin (龍仁) City.
Joayang serves as a messenger delivering policy, culture, and lifestyle information on the city's official SNS channels. It has received positive responses from citizens through events such as KakaoTalk emoticon giveaways and wrapping images on Yongin light rail vehicles.
Last month, it also won the grand prize in the regional category at the 4th Our Neighborhood Character contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency.
Mayor Baek Gun-gi of Yongin took a commemorative photo with staff in front of the Joayang sculpture and urged them to widely promote the city by utilizing Joayang in various ways.
A city official stated, "We installed the Joayang sculpture so that visitors to the city hall would feel it as a bright and friendly space rather than a quiet and heavy one."
