6th Republic Crown Prince Park Cheol-eon: "No Tae-woo, a bridge between industrialization and democratization... a giant of modern history" At the entrance of the funeral hall at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where the funeral of former President Roh Tae-woo, who passed away on the 26th, was set up, former Minister Park Cheol-eon, Roh's cousin-in-law and known as the Crown Prince of the 6th Republic, is explaining the achievements of the former president to the press.

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Former lawmaker Park Cheol-eon, who was called the 'Crown Prince' during the era of the late former President Roh Tae-woo, mourned him as a 'giant of modern history.'


On the 26th, Park visited the funeral hall at Seoul National University Hospital, where the wake is to be held, and told reporters about former President Roh, "Former President Roh began the journey of democratization with the June 29 Declaration in 1987 and made great efforts to expand fundamental rights as a directly elected president," adding, "He was a giant of modern history who excellently served as a bridge during the transition from the industrialization era to the democratization era."


Park cited the establishment of the Constitutional Court, the abolition of the Basic Press Act, the hosting of the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and the Northern Policy as representative achievements of former President Roh.


Regarding North Korea policy, he said, "In December 1991, the Basic Agreement between North and South Korea was concluded, and in February 1992, the Joint Declaration on the Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula was made," adding, "He made tremendous efforts to improve national issues during his tenure." He expressed, "As one of the aides who served former President Roh, I pray that he rests in peace."
