POSCO 1% Nanum Foundation and Friends Volunteer Members Fully Support Wedding Expenses for POSCO Employees
Celebrating 66 Multicultural Couples' Beautiful Weddings in Gwangyang City Over 15 Years Since 2007
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks Friends Volunteer Group announced on the 26th that they held an outdoor joint wedding ceremony for two multicultural couples together with the Gwangyang Gaya Lions Club.
The wedding ceremony held at Madong Reservoir Ecological Park in Gwangyang City was attended by National Assembly member Seo Dong-yong, Gwangyang Steelworks Director Kim Ji-yong, Gwangyang City Council Chairman Jin Su-hwa, Jeonnam Sports Association Chairman Kim Jae-mu, Jeonnam Lions Eastern District Headquarters President Lee Ki-jong, POSCO Labor-Management Council Employee Representative Kang Yong-gu, Gwangyang City Health Family and Multicultural Center Director Son Kyung-hwa, as well as POSCO Steelworks executives and employees, Friends Volunteer Group members, and officials from Jeonnam and Gwangyang Gaya Lions, who all blessed the happy married lives of the two couples.
The Friends Volunteer Group is a talent volunteer group consisting of about 350 employees of Gwangyang Steelworks, supporting joint wedding ceremonies since 2007 for local multicultural couples who could not hold weddings due to economic difficulties.
The two couples married that day were exemplary multicultural families residing in Gwangyang City, selected by the Gwangyang City Multicultural Family Support Center. Including them, a total of 66 couples have held wedding ceremonies with the help of the Friends Volunteer Group to date.
The Friends Volunteer Group fully covered the wedding expenses such as outdoor venue setup, rental of wedding attire, and wedding makeup through funds from the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation, which is formed by donations from group members and 1% of POSCO employees' salaries.
Kim Ji-yong, Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, "I am glad to be able to bless your happy future at such a meaningful event," and encouraged the two newlyweds by saying, "I sincerely hope you build a happy family by always sharing joy and sorrow, encouraging each other, and filling each other's shortcomings."
One Vietnamese bride who tied the knot that day said, "I am grateful to Gwangyang Steelworks and the Gwangyang Gaya Lions Club for preparing such a beautiful outdoor wedding," and added, "As many people have congratulated us, my husband and I will cherish and encourage each other to create a happy married life."
