[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Saerom] On the morning of the 26th, the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education and Changwon City held a business agreement ceremony for the promotion of the 2022 Happy Education District at the Changwon Education Support Office's main conference room.
The Happy Education District refers to areas designated by an agreement between the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education and basic local governments to actively cooperate between schools and local communities to innovate public education and build an educational community.
Starting with the Gimhae Happy Education District in 2017, 13 regions including Miryang, Yangsan, Namhae, Jinju, Sacheon, Goseong, Hadong, Hapcheon, Tongyeong, Geoje, Changnyeong, and Sancheong have been implemented since 2021. In 2022, along with Changwon City, Haman County, Uiryeong County, Geochang County, and Hamyang County will join, making all 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam Happy Education Districts.
As a result of consultations between the Changwon Education Support Office and Changwon City since March, the Happy Education District will be operated for two years starting in 2022, and after two years, the future direction and extension of operation will be discussed based on the performance.
The Gyeongnam Office of Education and Changwon City will each invest 750 million won to promote projects such as building a local educational community that fosters a happy educational city satisfying students, parents, and local residents ▲ creating a happy school culture ▲ operating village schools that nurture students' dreams ▲ fostering village educational communities, cooperating administratively and financially.
Superintendent Park Jong-hoon said, “I am pleased to sign the Happy Education District business agreement to create a new learning space for future education in Changwon, which means 'shining land.' I hope future talents who will make the city the brightest in the world grow safely in the educational ecosystem of learning.”
Mayor Heo Seong-mu of Changwon said, “To realize educational autonomy, we will strengthen educational cooperation governance involving the private sector, government, and academia to establish a sustainable local community educational ecosystem and a future education system reflecting local characteristics. We will create unique educational values of Changwon by utilizing various human and material resources within the region.”
