[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Former President Roh Tae-woo, who passed away on the 26th, left a will asking for "deep forgiveness for my mistakes." He requested that the funeral be conducted modestly in accordance with national law.


The family of former President Roh released a statement on the day, disclosing his will. Former President Roh said, "I am truly grateful and honored to have been able to serve the great Republic of Korea and its people," and added, "I did my best in my own way, but I ask for deep forgiveness for my shortcomings and mistakes."


He also reportedly urged his family, "I hope that the peaceful reunification of North and South Korea, which I could not achieve in my lifetime, will surely be accomplished by future generations."


The family expressed gratitude for the many condolences and sympathies, stating, "He wished for the funeral to be conducted as modestly as possible in accordance with national law."


The family is currently coordinating the funeral procedures with the government and added that they are discussing having the burial site in Paju, where the Unification Hill was established during his tenure.
