It was reported that Chairman Chey judged it difficult to pay respects on the day as the funeral hall for former President Roh had not yet been prepared. Accordingly, he is known to have visited the funeral hall to pay his respects and then immediately departed for his U.S. business trip.
Within the industry, there has been speculation that Chairman Chey would embark on the U.S. trip. This is because the Biden administration requested semiconductor confidential information, prompting the need for Chairman Chey to meet directly with key figures in U.S. politics and business to respond. There are also observations that Chairman Chey has already scheduled meetings with major political and business leaders.
After completing his U.S. trip, Chairman Chey is expected to travel to Hungary and join President Moon Jae-in's European tour schedule in his capacity as Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
President Moon's European tour schedule includes the Visegr?d Group summit and business forum involving Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland, along with other economic-related events. Since cooperation plans in future promising industries such as electric vehicles and batteries may be discussed at this venue, Chairman Chey is expected to play a role.
Meanwhile, Chairman Chey married No So-young, director of the Art Center Nabi and daughter of former President Roh, in 1988, but announced his intention to divorce in 2015. They have currently agreed on the divorce and are in the process of a property division lawsuit.
