[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] In a hypothetical matchup between Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, and Won Hee-ryong, the People Power Party presidential candidate and former governor of Jeju Province, Lee is leading Won within the margin of error.

On the 26th, Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion survey from the 23rd to 24th targeting 1,024 voters nationwide aged 18 and older (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response). The results showed that in the hypothetical matchup between Lee and Won, Lee received 40.2% support while Won received 38.6%, with Lee leading by 1.6 percentage points within the margin of error.

Lee showed strength among voters in their 40s and 50s, as well as in the Gyeonggi·Incheon region, Honam area, Gangwon, and Jeju, while Won was stronger among voters in their 20s and those aged 60 and above, as well as in Seoul and the Daegu·Gyeongbuk region.

In this survey, 78.1% of Democratic Party supporters responded that they support Lee, while 67.4% of People Power Party supporters backed Won.

Among respondents with no party affiliation or who were unsure, support was evenly split between the two candidates: Lee at 32.6% and Won at 32.3%.

The response rate for this survey was 6.6%, and the sample was extracted based on weighted values by gender, age, and region according to the resident registration population data from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of the end of January. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
