Ulsan City is holding a final review meeting ahead of the ‘3rd Korea-Russia Local Cooperation Forum’ scheduled for November 3.


On the 26th at 5 p.m., Ulsan City announced that it will hold the ‘3rd Korea-Russia Local Cooperation Forum Progress Final Report Meeting’ in the situation room on the 7th floor of the city hall main building, chaired by Mayor Song Cheol-ho, with related departments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Korea International Trade Association attending.


The report meeting will proceed with a presentation on the execution plan for the event, which is one week away, final reports on progress from related organizations and departments, followed by opinion gathering and discussion.


It will also comprehensively review major plans including protocol and reception, meeting progress, publicity, and COVID-19 quarantine measures.


The 3rd Korea-Russia Local Cooperation Forum has set as its main agenda the revision of the ‘Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the Korea-Russia Local Cooperation Forum’ due to the expansion of participating local governments in Russia’s Arctic region, and the derivation of the ‘Ulsan Declaration.’


Mayor Song Cheol-ho will co-chair the entire summit with the governor of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia, the next host.


At this forum, comprehensive exchanges in various fields such as economy and trade, education and science, culture and arts between local governments of the two countries will be expanded, along with full-scale discussions on opening Arctic routes and multilateral economic cooperation projects such as building business networks between the two countries.


Mayor Song Cheol-ho said, “It is highly meaningful that seven additional local governments from Russia’s Arctic region are participating, securing the forum’s expansion from the Far East to the Cold Rush, the competition for Arctic Ocean resource acquisition,” and added, “We will thoroughly prepare to ensure the success of this forum, which will be held on the largest scale ever.”


The ‘Korea-Russia Local Cooperation Forum,’ launched by agreement between the heads of state of Korea and Russia, has been held alternately every year in Korean and Russian Far East cities, including the 1st forum in Pohang, Gyeongbuk in 2018 and the 2nd forum in Vladivostok, Russia in 2019. The 4th forum next year is confirmed to be held in Sakhalin Oblast, Russia.


The ‘3rd Korea-Russia Local Cooperation Forum’ hosted by Ulsan City is scheduled to be held from November 3 to 5 over three days at the Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center (UECO) and other venues, with about 800 participants from 17 local governments of Korea and 18 local governments from Russia’s Far East and Arctic regions.
