[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Giselle (Uchinaga Aeri), a member of the group aespa, who was embroiled in a racial discrimination controversy due to inappropriate mouth movements while singing along to a leaked pop song, has apologized.

On the 25th, Giselle apologized through aespa's official social network service (SNS), saying, "I apologize for mouthing the wrong words from the lyrics of the song that was playing on set."

Giselle added, "It was not intentional for any reason, and I was excited because a song by an artist I like was playing," and apologized again. She continued, "I will continue to learn and be mindful of my actions."

Recently, in aespa's released content, Giselle sang along to part of the lyrics of SZA's "LOVE Galore," specifically the phrase "Skrt skrt on niggas." The word "nigga" is used among Black people with meanings similar to "dude" or "man," but when used by others towards Black people, it is considered a derogatory slur with insulting intent.

Afterwards, some pointed out that it was regrettable that the lyrics Giselle sang along to included a racial slur against Black people. In response, the agency SM Entertainment deleted the content video and posted an apology in English.

Meanwhile, aespa released their first mini-album on the 5th and is currently promoting their new song "Savage." The song has attracted attention with over 100 million views on YouTube.
