Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung is leaving the government building on the 25th, receiving a farewell from Gyeonggi Provincial Office officials.
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, wrote his final letter to the 4,000 public officials at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, with whom he shared hardships and joys for 3 years and 4 months, before stepping down as governor.
The letter, which began with "You are my pride. Thank you," started with a promise he made to public officials when he received his appointment as governor of Gyeonggi Province on July 1, 2018.
In the letter, Lee said, "When I received the governor's appointment letter, I told you that I would make you proud to be public officials of Gyeonggi Province," adding, "Looking back now, although it may not be 100%, I think we have achieved a considerable degree of that."
He continued, "It must have been really hard to keep pace with a governor who made you do things you didn’t have to do and demanded you to do better at the tasks you were already doing," then expressed, "Once again, I sincerely thank you."
In particular, he expressed gratitude, saying, "Even during the two years after my inauguration when I could not fully concentrate on provincial administration due to trials, thanks to your best efforts, we were able to achieve an unprecedented first place nationwide in administrative satisfaction in Gyeonggi Province," and "This was possible because the senior officials exercising delegated authority and frontline public officials worked as one to faithfully fulfill their duties as public servants."
He also said, "I have always felt sorry, and still do, as if I were taking all the credit for the achievements we all made with our full efforts," and urged, "I humbly ask you to continue to work unstintingly for the residents, just as you have done so far."
Furthermore, he promised, "I am a very fortunate person," and "It was an honor to work with colleagues like you, and I will never forget the loyalty and passion you have shown for the residents."
Lee concluded the final letter of the day with the words, "I wish everyone health and happiness, and you, the public officials of Gyeonggi Province, are my pride," and "I love Gyeonggi Province."
