[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 25th that it secured a total project budget of 3.2 billion KRW for 12 projects in the 2022 Traditional Market and Shopping District Contest.
In September, nine projects were selected under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ “Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Support,” and in October, three projects were selected under the Gwangju Metropolitan City’s “Traditional Market and Shopping District Facility Modernization Support,” marking a great achievement.
Specifically, there are three specialized market development projects, three market management package projects, and six infrastructure maintenance projects.
The “Specialized Market Development Project” aims to leap into a digital traditional market by developing cultural contents and representative products to create a cultural tourism-type market and establish a digital foundation.
In particular, a total of five projects will be promoted simultaneously by combining the three newly selected sites with two previously selected ones, and it is expected that the projects can be carried out in connection with the commercial districts in Dong-gu.
The “Market Management Package Project” aims to build a foundation for self-sustainability by supporting resident personnel and providing consultation in markets and shopping districts so that they can independently establish marketing and online platforms, while the “Infrastructure Maintenance Project” aims to create a pleasant environment for merchants and visiting customers.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “This year, Dong-gu achieved better results than any other year in the traditional market and shopping district contest,” and added, “We hope that this project will serve as an opportunity to revitalize commercial districts such as traditional markets that have been going through difficult times due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.”
