[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, presided over his final expanded executive meeting on the afternoon of the 25th, one day before his resignation.
At the meeting, Governor Lee said, "During the two years since my inauguration, despite suffering from trials and not being able to fully concentrate on Gyeonggi Province administration, the satisfaction level of the residents ranked first nationwide for a considerable period, an unprecedented achievement," expressing gratitude by adding, "This is entirely the result of the dedicated efforts of all public officials."
He particularly self-assessed, "When I took office, I promised to be able to proudly say to those around me that I am a public official of Gyeonggi Province and to be recognized by residents as a truly hardworking public official, and I believe that has been achieved to a significant extent."
He also urged, "Even during my absence, I ask Deputy Governor Oh Byung-kwon and others to continue to faithfully execute the authority entrusted by the residents solely for their benefit without any wavering."
On this day, Governor Lee received a plaque of appreciation made by the staff from Deputy Governor Oh Byung-kwon. After the meeting, he shook hands individually with senior officials and bid farewell.
Before attending the expanded executive meeting, Governor Lee visited the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters to express his gratitude to the firefighters.
At the site, he praised their efforts, saying, "While Gyeonggi Province’s population has increased, the amount of fire damage and the number of incidents have decreased, thanks to the hard work of our firefighters." He added, "As those who protect the lives of residents, please continue to work diligently with a strong sense of mission."
Earlier that day, at 11 a.m., Governor Lee held a resignation press conference and officially resigned from his position as governor effective the 26th.
