Jeongeup-si to Operate the 16th Humanities Week Until the 31st

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk Province and Jeonbuk National University announced on the 25th that they will operate the "16th Humanities Week" from the 25th to the 31st for Jeongeup, a humanities city where the five flavors come alive.

Humanities Week is an event designated and operated by the National Research Foundation of Korea since 2006 as the last week of October nationwide Humanities Week.

The city was selected for this year's Humanities City support project jointly with the Jeonbuk National University Humanities Research Institute in July and is participating for the first time.

On the 25th, following the "Opening Ceremony of Humanities Week," Mayor Yoo Jin-seop gave the first part of a special lecture under the theme "Jeongeup, a Humanities City Where the Five Flavors Come Alive."

In the second part, Moon Byung-hak, head of the memorial project department at the Donghak Peasant Revolution Foundation, gave a special lecture titled "The Story of General Nokdu Jeon Bong-jun," focusing on understanding General Jeon Bong-jun and commemorating the spirit of the Donghak Peasant Revolution.

Also, considering the COVID-19 situation, Professor Park Jeong-man of Jeonbuk National University conducted a non-face-to-face (Zoom) special lecture titled "The Story of Goun Choi Chi-won" for citizens who could not attend.

On the 26th, special lectures will be held under the themes "Jeongeup, the City, and Me" and "The Story of Jeongeup Magistrate Yi Sun-shin," and on the 27th, a special lecture and video exhibition about Museong Seowon, the center of the Seonbi spirit, will follow.

On the 28th, a program will be held to understand Jeongeup's cultural heritage and directly experience the excavation process, and on the 29th, participants will make traditional liquor themselves and reflect on the meaning of the aroma of liquor.

On the 30th, a special lecture and experience about the Jeongeup Paleolithic Gujeolcho site will be conducted, and on the last day, the 31st, participants will directly explore the evacuation route of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty during the Imjin War and experience the activities of An Ui and Son Heung-rok.

Detailed information on each program of this Humanities Week and how to participate can be found on the Jeongeup City website.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, "Most of the main materials for this Humanities Week event utilized Jeongeup's humanities assets," adding, "I hope citizens share and experience the local history and culture together and have time to reflect on the meaning of local humanities."
