Collision Between Korean and Chinese Vessels Off Ehime, Japan... One Crew Member Slightly Injured

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] A collision occurred between a Korean cargo ship and a Chinese container ship off the coast of Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan.


According to Kyodo News on the 25th, at around 3:15 a.m. that day, a report was received at the Kurushima Strait Maritime Traffic Center that a Korean-flagged cargo ship (SS SUN, 2341t) and a Chinese-flagged container ship (HUA HANG HAN YA2, 7635t) collided near the Kurushima Strait in Ehime Prefecture.


One person aboard the Korean cargo ship sustained minor facial injuries in the accident.


There was no flooding or oil leakage from either vessel, and navigation was reportedly not affected.


Japanese authorities (Imabari Coast Guard) guided both ships toward Imabari Port and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the collision and the extent of the damage to the vessels.
