[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Starting around 11 a.m. on the 25th, KT's wired and wireless internet services experienced an outage lasting about an hour, causing significant inconvenience to subscribers across the country in using internet services.
KT's wired and wireless internet network began experiencing communication disruptions around 11:20 a.m. that day. The internet outage occurred nationwide, including Seoul, the metropolitan area, Chungcheong and Honam regions, as well as Jeju Island.
Afterwards, most internet services appeared to return to normal around noon, but it was reported that recovery was delayed in some areas.
During this process, services across KT's internet network were disrupted, including internet searches, stock trading systems, and store payment systems. Some subscribers even experienced failures in regular telephone calls as the outage spread. Customer centers were also unreachable, adding to customer inconvenience.
KT stated, "It has been identified that a large-scale DDoS attack occurred on the network around 11 a.m. We immediately activated the crisis management committee to respond swiftly and are doing our best for a rapid recovery."
