Seokyeongho, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, Appointed Chairman of the Korea Committee for the World Heritage

Seokyeongho, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, Appointed Chairman of the Korea Committee for the World Heritage


On the 22nd, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 25th that it had appointed ten members to the Korean Committee for the Memory of the World at Heungbokjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace. There are three ex officio members and seven individual members. According to the "General Guidelines for the Memory of the World" and the "Regulations on the Operation of the Korean Committee for the Memory of the World," they will discuss and deliberate on overall matters related to the Memory of the World system for four years. Seo Kyungho, Professor Emeritus of the Division of Liberal Arts at Seoul National University, was elected as the chairman. The ex officio members include Lee Kyunghun, Director of the Cultural Heritage Utilization Bureau at the Cultural Heritage Administration; Lee Taekgu, Director of the Records Policy Department at the National Archives of Korea; and Kim Gwibae, Head of the Science and Culture Division at the UNESCO Korean Commission. Individual members participating are Kang Munsik, Professor of History at Soongsil University; Ok Youngjeong, Professor of Ancient Document Management at the Academy of Korean Studies; Lee Hyunkyung, Senior Researcher at the Cultural Heritage Center of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies; Im Jinhee, Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Records and Information Science at Myongji University; Jeong Jonghwa, Head of the Curatorial Research Team at the Korean Film Archive; and Jo Youngju, Director of Knowledge Information Management at the National Library of Korea. The Cultural Heritage Administration explained, "Based on expertise in each field, they will perform tasks such as selecting candidates for Memory of the World inscription applications, reviewing applications, conducting regular inspections of inscribed heritage, and handling international responses related to the Memory of the World."
