Gochang-gun Accelerates Intensive Support for Farmers Generating High Added Value in Agriculture

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun is drawing attention as it embarks on devising strategies to generate high income for its residents.

The county announced on the 25th that it held a "Strategy Meeting for Fostering High-Income Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries Workers" on the 22nd, chaired by County Governor Yu Gisang, with participation from related departments and town and township heads.

Earlier, during the 7th local government term, the county proclaimed itself as the agricultural life-food capital of the Korean Peninsula, advancing the agriculture, fisheries, and livestock departments as the leading bureau and committing itself to revitalizing agricultural life.

This strategy meeting was organized to find survival strategies for local agriculture amid increasingly fierce agricultural competition and to focus on nurturing high-income farmers.

The county plans to induce a shift in planting to high-income crop varieties (such as subtropical crops) and promote collectivization and scaling by item.

Furthermore, through the activation of integrated agricultural product marketing, small-scale individual farms will also be involved to help secure stable sales channels for agricultural products, thereby aiding income generation for farming households.

In the salt farm, aquaculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors, broad support will be provided?including reducing management costs, infrastructure, and marketing?to further increase annual income levels.

Governor Yu Gisang stated, "We will continue to implement tailored nurturing policies according to income levels, such as switching to high-income crops, corporatization by item, and quality enhancement. We will enhance agricultural competitiveness through cost reduction via scaling and organization, fostering high-quality brands, and pioneering stable sales channels."

He added, "We will also increase off-farm income by expanding the 6th industry, including processing, distribution, and sales, and revitalizing agricultural and fishing villages tourism to raise farm household income."
