KODEX Stock-Type Active ETF 5 Types Surpass 200 Billion KRW in Net Assets


[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Samsung Asset Management announced that the net assets of five KODEX equity active ETFs have surpassed 200 billion KRW for the first time in the industry. ‘Active ETFs’ are products that combine the advantages of active funds and ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds). They can lower the correlation coefficient with the benchmark index to as low as 0.7, allowing the manager’s operational skills to intervene and pursue excess returns beyond the index.


The lineup of five KODEX equity active ETFs?KODEX Innovation Technology Theme Active ETF, KODEX K-Innovation Active ETF, KODEX K-Future Car Active ETF, KODEX K-Renewable Energy Active ETF, and KODEX K-Metaverse Active ETF?has achieved a market share of 29.6%, maintaining the number one position in the active ETF market’s equity segment.


In particular, the KODEX K-Metaverse Active ETF, which invests broadly in the domestic metaverse industry that has emerged as the biggest topic in the market this year, has recorded a cumulative return of 16.4% since its listing on the 13th, ranking first in returns among the four metaverse-themed ETFs listed simultaneously on the same day.


Additionally, the KODEX K-Renewable Energy Active ETF, listed on May 25, invests in domestic companies related to renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy, hydrogen energy, and secondary batteries. Riding the wave of decarbonization and the rise of eco-friendly policies worldwide, long-term performance is expected, with a cumulative return of 19.9% as of October 22 since its listing.


Moreover, the KODEX Innovation Technology Theme Active ETF, which invests in 4th industrial revolution innovative technology patent companies using big data based on the KOSPI, and the KODEX K-Innovation Active ETF, which leverages Samsung Active Asset Management’s research capabilities to invest in domestic innovative growth companies pursuing alpha returns, have achieved cumulative returns of 31.3% and 8.4% respectively since their listings, showing steady progress.


The KODEX K-Future Car Active ETF, which focuses on core companies in the domestic future car industry, has also shown rapid capital inflow, surpassing 70.2 billion KRW in net assets since its listing in May this year. Tae-hyuk Lim, head of Samsung Asset Management’s ETF Operation Team 1, stated, “KODEX provides investors with active ETFs that have greater operational freedom compared to passive ETFs for themes where new market pioneers continuously emerge,” adding, “We will continue to supply innovative and stable ETFs to investors by discovering new themes.”
