[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] CJ CheilJedang announced on the 25th that it has been selected for the third consecutive year as the top group in the 2021 UN Sustainable Development Goals Business Index (SDGBI) global index announced by the United Nations Economic and Social Council Special Advisory Body (UN SDGs Association). CJ CheilJedang is the only domestic food company to be listed as the top group for three consecutive years.
SDGBI is a management analysis index based on the Sustainable Development Goals, first announced in 2016. It is a globally credible ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) evaluation indicator, officially submitted as a statement to the UN Headquarters High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in 2019.
The index consists of 12 items and 48 indicators across four areas: society, environment, economy, and institutions, analyzing companies that conduct management activities most aligned with these criteria. It particularly evaluates efforts in eco-friendliness, social and economic impact, governance and institutional improvement efforts, and ESG financial activities, selecting companies in three categories: top, excellent, and upper tiers.
This year, 303 out of 3,000 global companies were included in the global index. Among them, CJ CheilJedang was listed in the top group alongside 46 leading global companies such as Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, and Nestl?.
CJ CheilJedang received high evaluations for healthy food production, efforts to build an eco-friendly ecosystem, the management’s commitment to sustainable management and execution system establishment, climate change response efforts, use of natural raw materials, and the establishment of a trustworthy transparent system and governance.
Meanwhile, the UN SDGs Association plans to introduce companies listed in this global top group as major sustainable management cases in the international community through various UN SDGs platforms. It will also provide opportunities for promotion and cooperation through various channels to major global investment banks, asset management companies, credit rating agencies, exchanges, and ESG evaluation institutions worldwide.
