Integration and Joint Operation of Fragrance-Related R&D Organizations in Incheon Songdo International City
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] ScentOn announced on the 25th that it has integrated the fragrance-related research and development (R&D) organizations within its parent company, automotive lifestyle culture company Bullsone, and its group affiliates to jointly operate the Integrated Fragrance Research Institute located in Songdo International City, Incheon.
ScentOn, which recently developed signature (CI) scents for various companies and brands such as Lotte Department Store, Musinsa, and Hyundai Construction, is a premium fragrance marketing specialist company with clients including domestic 5-star and above luxury hotels such as Signiel, Four Seasons, and Fairmont.
Yoo Jung-yeon, CEO of ScentOn, said, "We expect tremendous synergy effects as two fragrance research institutes, each with professionals in their own unique fields, have been integrated. As the only fragrance marketing company with its own fragrance research institute, we will do our best to provide premium fragrance services under the best conditions based on expertise and extensive research and development." She added, "Recently, fragrance marketing has been gaining attention as a new marketing method targeting the MZ generation among many companies and brands, and the development of signature (CI) scents is rapidly accelerating."
The ScentOn Integrated Fragrance Research Institute develops customized scents tailored to client needs by creating various MD products such as diffusers, candles, room sprays, and sachets based on spatial scents, along with meticulous perfumer technicians to ensure rich and consistent scent diffusion in various spaces.
Additionally, Bullsone’s fragrance research institute, ScentOn’s parent company, annually introduces trendy and new scents based on a popular scent spectrum including aqua, floral, blackberry, and cotton through its premium car diffuser brand 'Grass' and the well-known sun visor air freshener brand 'Polar Fresh.' It has been responsible not only for deodorizing and freshening car interiors but also for scent interior design in everyday living spaces.
Since 2014, the two companies have been directly cultivating 15 types of herbs and native Korean crops such as lavender, peony, lily of the valley, thyme, mint, and baecho in Sancheong, Gyeongnam. They have jointly conducted research on fragrance development through natural oil extraction, and in the following year, 2015, launched ScentOn’s perfume specialty brand 'Scentlier,' centered on fragrance raw materials from Sancheong Garden.
ScentOn and Bullsone have accumulated excellent fragrance development technology know-how over more than 20 years. They possess numerous fragrance experts who have completed perfumery education at Korea’s first specialized perfumery education institution, GN Perfume & Flavor School, as well as training at Goryeo Fragrance, Hanbul Fragrance, and world-leading fragrance companies such as Givaudan, Firmenich, and Robertet.
Kim Young-jin, Executive Director and the first head of the Integrated Fragrance Research Institute, said, "Through the integration of the fragrance research institutes, we can provide an effective collaboration system among the perfumery experts of both companies. By operating the ScentOn-Bullsone Integrated Fragrance Research Institute, rapid research and development tailored to the rapidly changing market conditions has become possible." He added, "We will introduce scents that suit the preferences of Korean consumers who favor delicate and trendy fragrances and create a new category in K-culture."
