"I Jaemyung, Qualified to Become a Platform for Our Society"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Broadcaster Kim Eo-jun appealed for support for Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, saying, "He is someone who became a presidential candidate by his own ability," and "Now you have to help him."
In a video released on the evening of the 22nd on the YouTube channel 'Ddanzi Broadcasting Station,' Kim said, "Lee Jae-myung, who has no money, no backing, and no connections, became a presidential candidate by his own ability." Lee was elected as the ruling party's presidential candidate after serving as mayor of Seongnam and governor of Gyeonggi Province without any factional support within the party. Lee has also often emphasized that he is a 'non-mainstream' figure.
Kim continued, "The path of someone who breaks through by their own ability is difficult and lonely, but it exists. However, it is extremely rare and precious for someone to reach the presidential candidacy through that path," adding, "Therefore, Lee Jae-myung deserves to be a platform for our society."
Regarding the 'Daejang-dong development preferential treatment allegations' surrounding Lee, Kim defended him, saying, "It has been over a month since the Daejang-dong news dominated the portals, but no evidence has emerged linking the candidate." He added, "If the candidate had given profits to the private sector at the cost of sacrificing his own political achievements, there must have been a greater price than his own loss. (Lee) would not have said, 'I take the loss, and you take the profit.'"
Meanwhile, today (the 24th), Lee met with former party leader Lee Nak-yeon and declared a 'one team.' Lee met with the former leader at a tea house in Andong-guk, Jongno-gu, Seoul, which was the former leader's previous parliamentary constituency, at 3 p.m. and announced that the two agreed to cooperate for regime continuation in the presidential election next March.
