[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] A person in their 20s who passed the civil service exam has attracted attention for donating 10 million won, which they had saved for their university tuition.

According to Yonhap News on the 24th, Namdong-gu in Incheon announced that a person in their 20s, Mr. A, who lives in Incheon, recently donated sponsorship funds worth 10 million won to Namdong-gu through the church they attend. Mr. A also expressed a desire to anonymously support 20 students from single-parent families with 500,000 won each from this money.

The 10 million won donated by Mr. A was money he had steadily saved by working part-time jobs at sushi restaurants, convenience stores, and other places to cover his tuition fees. After eight months of effort, he finally passed the national civil service exam last August, and with the burden of university tuition lifted, he decided to make the donation.

In a phone interview with Yonhap News, Mr. A said, "While preparing for the civil service exam, I had a thought in my heart to achieve my goal and try donating. Although it is a small amount, I hope the children can feel small happiness in their daily lives by eating the food they want and buying pretty clothes."

He is known to have decided to help children in similar situations, recalling his cousin who grew up in a single-parent family. He also recently started a small regular donation to help disabled children from single-parent families. Currently in his second month as a civil servant, Mr. A is working on-site handling COVID-19 support tasks. Namdong-gu added that on the 12th, following Mr. A’s wishes, they selected one single-parent family in each of the 20 neighborhoods in the district and delivered sponsorship funds of 500,000 won to each.
