[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] A woman in her 20s who injured a 6-year-old child while riding an electric scooter was sentenced to a fine by the court.
According to the legal community on the 23rd, Judge Min Suyeon of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 26 recently sentenced university student A (25, female), who was indicted for violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling (injury), to a fine of 700,000 KRW.
Earlier, A was prosecuted on charges of hitting the back of a 6-year-old girl walking ahead with the handlebar while entering the sidewalk on an electric scooter around 2:30 PM on November 12 last year in Jung-gu, Seoul, causing injuries requiring about two weeks of treatment.
In court, A explained the situation at the time, saying, "It was my first time riding a scooter, so I was not aware of the related laws. I significantly reduced my riding speed, but the child was startled by an oncoming motorcycle and stopped, causing a slight collision."
The court stated, "Considering that the defendant is a first-time offender, that she has not been forgiven by the victim, that there are no changes in circumstances warranting leniency in sentencing, and taking into account all sentencing conditions such as the defendant's age, character, environment, motive, means and results of the crime, and circumstances after the crime, the sentence is determined as ordered."
