[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] A fire suppression chemical leaked at a construction site in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, causing injuries.
At around 8:52 a.m. on the 23rd, an accident occurred at the underground 3rd floor of the new construction site of Gasan Metro Knowledge Industry Center in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, where a fire suppression chemical used for extinguishing fires leaked.
As a result of the accident, four workers at the site lost consciousness and were transported to the hospital while receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from paramedics who arrived on the scene. Additionally, six others sustained minor injuries to their respiratory systems and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
It was reported that a total of 17 people were working at the site. They were understood to have been performing insulation work on boilers and fire protection facilities in the underground area of the construction site when the accident occurred.
The local fire department issued a Level 1 response at 9:08 a.m., mobilizing all available personnel and dispatching 20 fire trucks and 73 firefighters to the scene.
The fire authorities plan to conduct a search operation to determine if there are any additional workers among the remaining seven on-site who need to be rescued, while also investigating the exact cause of the accident.
