COVID-19 New Cases 1,508... "4th Wave Declining"


[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] On the 23rd, the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases recorded in the 1500s.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on that day, 1,508 new confirmed cases were added, bringing the total to 350,476.


The number of new confirmed cases is 69 more than the previous day, and compared to 1,617 cases last Friday (October 16, based on announcement date) a week ago, it is 109 fewer.


Looking at the infection routes of new confirmed cases, 1,487 were locally transmitted and 21 were imported from overseas.


By region, Seoul had 546 cases, Gyeonggi 512 cases, Incheon 106 cases, totaling 1,164 cases in the metropolitan area, accounting for 78.3%.


Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 323 cases (21.7%), including Gyeongnam 71, Chungbuk 46, Chungnam 42, Busan 39, Gyeongbuk 35, Daegu 21, Gangwon 20, Jeonbuk 18, Daejeon 8, Gwangju 7, Ulsan 6, Jeonnam 5, Jeju 3, and Sejong 2.


The daily confirmed cases have maintained four digits for 109 consecutive days since July 7 (1,211 cases).


Looking at the new confirmed cases over the past week from the 17th to this day, the daily numbers were 1,420 → 1,050 → 1,073 → 1,571 → 1,441 → 1,439 → 1,508.


The weekly daily average of confirmed cases is about 1,357, of which approximately 1,339 are locally transmitted cases excluding imported cases.


The number of new confirmed cases has remained below 2,000 for 15 consecutive days since the 9th (1,953 cases).


The number of deaths increased by 20 from the previous day, reaching a total of 2,745. The domestic average fatality rate is 0.78%. The number of critically ill patients is 327, down 15 from 342 the previous day.


The number of tests conducted at screening clinics for suspected patients and others on the previous day was 44,087, which is 1,293 fewer than 45,380 the day before.


Health authorities evaluate that the fourth wave of COVID-19 has turned to a downward trend ahead of the transition to the 'With COVID' quarantine system next month.
