[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Amid ongoing reports of adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccinations, a petition has been posted urging a thorough investigation after a man claimed his father died 24 days after receiving the Janssen vaccine.
On the 22nd, a petition titled "My father died 24 days after receiving the COVID Janssen vaccine" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board.
The petitioner, identified as Mr. A from Changwon, Gyeongnam, stated, "My father received the Janssen vaccine at a hospital in Changwon on the 17th of last month. Then, 24 days later, on October 10th, he fell into a brain-dead state due to a stroke caused by a blood clot and ultimately passed away at the age of 57."
He added, "My father had heart valve surgery, but that was 33 years ago. Since then, he had been healthy without any issues."
He continued, "However, after receiving the Janssen vaccine, he suffered from headaches, high fever, and chest discomfort. Even when he went to the hospital emergency room, he was only prescribed Tylenol because of the fever," he lamented.
According to Mr. A, his father collapsed on the 6th and was transported to the hospital. After receiving medication, he underwent emergency brain surgery. Mr. A said, "(At the time of surgery) one side of his brain was already dead due to the stroke, and necrosis was progressing in the other side of the brain, the cerebellum in the center, and the medulla oblongata," adding, "(The doctor) said that even if the surgery went well, he would not regain consciousness and would remain in a vegetative state, only able to breathe."
He continued, "The situation kept worsening. Blood clots from the heart damaged the brain, and when his red blood cell count rose to 18,000, the attending physician also said, 'The stroke is not the cause; we really don't know,' only giving that response," he said. "Eventually, my father was declared brain dead, donated organs to four people, and passed away."
Mr. A expressed his frustration, saying, "Even after an autopsy on my father's body, we were told it could not definitively determine causality with the vaccine, and since he had donated organs, we could not bring ourselves to perform the autopsy. Everything feels like a nightmare and is so heartbreaking."
He said, "I am not seeking compensation for vaccine side effects. I want someone to acknowledge my father's unjust death, have the vaccine causality officially recognized, and receive a sincere apology."
He also appealed, "'Vaccination is absolutely safe,' 'Side effects are extremely rare,' 'You must get vaccinated,' but when adverse reactions appear after vaccination, what kind of response is this from hospitals?" He added, "Because of my father's death, my elderly grandparents have had to bear the guilt of losing their child, and the whole family is engulfed in indescribable sorrow."
Finally, Mr. A said, "Please raise awareness about the seriousness of COVID vaccine side effects," and "Please acknowledge that my father unjustly passed away due to blood clots, a side effect of the Janssen vaccine."
