The event, held at 2 p.m. on the 22nd with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and the Jeju Marine Leisure Association, was promoted to revitalize South Korea's marine leisure industry, propose nationwide network-building plans, and expand the base of marine leisure by utilizing Jeju's tourism infrastructure.

Minister Moon attended the opening ceremony of the 2021 Jeju International Marine Leisure Expo held at the Jeju International Convention Center in Seogwipo City and stated, "Although social distancing has been prolonged due to COVID-19, causing a slight slowdown in leisure activities involving the sea, the demand for marine leisure is expected to surge again."
Minister Moon added, "The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is carrying out a project to create an indoor and outdoor complex leisure facility for year-round skin diving and surfing around Munseom in Seogwipo, aiming to open in 2023," and said, "We are also working with Jeju Province to expand the base of marine leisure through hosting the international marine expo and operating marine leisure experience classes." He further stated, "It is meaningful that the Jeju International Marine Leisure Expo is held in Jeju, which is attracting attention as a marine leisure mecca surrounded by the sea."
At the event, Gu Man-seop, Acting Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, who co-hosted the event, attended and emphasized, "Jeju will advance as a marine leisure hub of Asia beyond South Korea," and added, "We hope you will always be with us on that journey."
