'Squid Game' Lee Jung-jae Nominated for US Independent Film Award


Actor Lee Jung-jae has been nominated for the Best Performance in a New Series category at the Gotham Awards for the Netflix drama "Squid Game." According to the list of nominees announced on the 21st (local time), he will compete for the trophy against Ethan Hawke from "The Good Lord Bird," Anya Taylor-Joy from "The Queen's Gambit," and Jennifer Coolidge from "The White Lotus." The Gotham Awards is a 31-year-old ceremony sponsored by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), a U.S. independent film support organization. It is held annually in New York. Lee Jung-jae portrayed Seong Gi-hun, a life loser stigmatized in "Squid Game." His character participates in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking his life in extreme games. According to FlixPatrol, an online video service (OTT) ranking site, the drama has been ranked number one worldwide in the Netflix TV program category throughout the month.
