[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] On the 22nd, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases recorded 1,440, continuing below 1,500 cases for two consecutive days.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 1,440 from the previous day to 348,969. The sources of new infections were 1,420 local cases and 20 imported cases.
Among the locally transmitted cases, 1,145 cases, accounting for 80.6%, were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area. Specifically, 513 cases in Seoul, 512 in Gyeonggi, and 120 in Incheon were confirmed.
Non-metropolitan area cases totaled 275. By region, the confirmed cases were ▲Busan 44 ▲Daegu 21 ▲Gwangju 3 ▲Daejeon 5 ▲Ulsan 2 ▲Sejong 1 ▲Gangwon 18 ▲Chungbuk 40 ▲Chungnam 27 ▲Jeonbuk 16 ▲Jeonnam 15 ▲Gyeongbuk 44 ▲Gyeongnam 33 ▲Jeju 6.
There were 20 imported cases. Two were detected during quarantine, and 18 were confirmed in the community. Nine were Korean nationals and eleven were foreigners.
Meanwhile, as of midnight, 58,594 people received new COVID-19 vaccinations. The cumulative number of first-dose vaccinations reached 40,644,903. The vaccination rate against the total population is 79.2%, and 91.7% among those aged 18 and over. The number of fully vaccinated individuals increased by 405,795 from the previous day to 35,003,778. The second-dose vaccination rate is 68.2% of the total population and 79.3% of those aged 18 and over.
