[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Kwon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party and head of the election countermeasures headquarters for former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign, explained that the 'apple' photo posted on Yoon's social media service (SNS) was "added with a bit of humor."
On the 22nd, Kwon said on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' that "If a personal Instagram is too serious and stiff, it becomes uninteresting. The official stance should be understood as the regret expressed on his Facebook and at yesterday's press conference."
He added, "There is no need to take it too seriously."
On the same day that former President Yoon expressed "apology" regarding remarks about former President Chun Doo-hwan, a photo showing a dog being given an "apple" was posted and then deleted on Yoon's SNS account called 'Torisutagram,' sparking controversy again.
Previously, on another SNS account, a childhood photo of Yoon was posted along with the phrase "Seok-yeol hyung still likes apples the most among fruits," which also drew criticism. That post has also been deleted.
Political criticism followed. Kwon Seong-ju, spokesperson for former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min's camp, said in a statement that "Anyone could clearly understand the meaning and intention of the photo," pointing out that "'apple' means to give it to the dog."
Shin Bo-ra, chief spokesperson for former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong's camp, also criticized in a statement, saying, "We are appalled by former President Yoon's campaign ridiculing even an apple," and Yeo Myung, spokesperson for Hong Joon-pyo's People Power Party camp, directly questioned, "If it is not 'give the apple to the dog,' then what is it?"
