[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There are expectations that the 3rd generation model of Apple's budget smartphone, the iPhone SE, will be unveiled as early as the first quarter of next year.
On the 21st (local time), IT specialized media outlets GSM Arena and Pocketnow reported that Apple may release the iPhone SE3 around the first quarter of next year.
The iPhone SE3, expected to be unveiled next spring, is anticipated to use the A15 Bionic chipset as its application processor (AP) and support 5G, making it the most affordable 5G iPhone.
Contrary to previous expectations, the design of the iPhone SE3 is likely to change to resemble the iPhone XR. Unlike rumors of a model featuring a 4.7-inch display and Touch ID fingerprint recognition, it is expected to have a 6.1-inch display similar to the iPhone XR and possibly include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. There are also speculations that a notch design may be applied, but it is unclear whether the Face ID facial recognition feature will be included.
Instead of the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel used in higher-end models, the display is reported to adopt the same Liquid Retina IPS panel as the iPhone XR. The battery and single rear camera are expected to remain the same as the previous model.
The price is reported to be set at $399 (approximately 470,000 KRW) in the United States, €499 (approximately 680,000 KRW) in Europe, and ?419 (approximately 680,000 KRW) in the United Kingdom.
