[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Junhyung] Domestic native ondol company Hoya Homtech is accelerating its entry into the dry-type hot water heating market.

Hoya Homtech announced on the 22nd that it showcased Hoya Ondol at the '2021 Korea Architecture Industry Exhibition' held on the 20th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul. Hoya Ondol is a dry-type hot water heating panel developed by Hoya Homtech using carbon composite material technology from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). The company recently began full-scale production at its factory located in Gunsan, Jeonbuk.

The strengths of Hoya Ondol lie in its thermal conductivity and high strength. Unlike existing wet and dry heating panels, it uses carbon composite materials and Maekbanseok, which emits far-infrared rays, as raw materials. The upper and lower parts of the panel are made of metal plates and expanded polypropylene (EPP), known as Styrofoam, respectively, complementing the shortcomings of existing dry heating materials such as heat absorption and storage functions.

The construction cost is cheaper than that of wet-type heating panels. According to Hoya Homtech, the construction cost of Hoya Ondol is 150,000 KRW per 3.3㎡ (approximately 1 pyeong), excluding insulation and inter-floor noise materials. The company explains that installation is simple enough for two unskilled workers to cover 99.2㎡ (about 30 pyeong) in one day.

Hoya Ondol can be applied not only to residential buildings such as detached houses and villas but also to offices and study rooms. It is expected that with future research and development (R&D) to meet inter-floor noise design standards, it could also be applied to multi-family housing.
