Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Leads the Way in Transitioning to COVID-19 'Phased Daily Recovery'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Samho) is taking full-scale measures to restore a peaceful daily life from COVID-19 and to accelerate the transition to a better society.

As COVID-19 vaccination speeds up and the government prepares for a ‘gradual return to daily life,’ Gwangsan-gu has been making efforts to lead the anticipated changes one step ahead.

By actively increasing the vaccination rate through proactive administration such as supporting vaccination for undocumented foreigners, the district has laid the foundation for herd immunity. Since June, all departments and public officials have sought strategies for post- and post-COVID-19 responses through meetings and learning sessions with expert groups.

Recently, economic experts Professor Choi Baekgeun of Konkuk University and Professor Mo Jongrin of Yonsei University were invited to give special lectures on the themes of ‘How to Survive the Great Economic Transition’ and ‘Finding the Future in the Alleyways.’

After departmental learning and deliberation, sector-specific workshops were held to identify 209 major policies and 53 core tasks.

Based on this, Gwangsan-gu completed the basic framework of a blueprint to support a stable return to daily life while opening the door to a better world after COVID-19 one step earlier.

The results include 44 major tasks across four key areas: economy and livelihood, society and culture, autonomy and safety, and quarantine and medical care.

In preparation for the post-COVID era, economic revitalization policies such as the ‘Golmok Sangkwon HAPPY (Happy) Project,’ which integratively supports smart commercial districts, business capacity enhancement, and a permanent platform for small business owners, and ‘Gwangsan Citizen Allowance Version 3.0,’ which institutionalizes participation allowances for social contributions, were included. Policies to help citizens’ mental health such as ‘Happiness Vaccine,’ and the operation of health management teams to prepare for expanded home treatment following the transition to a ‘With Corona’ quarantine system were also reflected to assist a safe and swift return to daily life.

Various tasks to improve administrative efficiency and convenience by incorporating hyper-reality, such as the metaverse administrative guidance system and the ‘Gwangsan-gu Metaworld Construction,’ were also included.

Gwangsan-gu plans to finalize the ‘Post- and Post-COVID Response Comprehensive Plan’ after a final review and share it with citizens through a metaverse briefing session next week.

Kim Samho, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, “Gwangsan-gu is preparing more fiercely and meticulously than anyone else for the ‘golden time’ of this great transition. We will enable citizens to escape the long tunnel of COVID-19 and regain a happy daily life as soon as possible through concrete and detailed measures.”

Meanwhile, the government is expected to soon announce a phased roadmap for returning to daily life by establishing a ‘COVID-19 Daily Life Recovery Support Committee.’ This is anticipated to be applied from November.
