Damyang-gun Selected as an Excellent Institution in the Government Joint Evaluation for the Forestry Sector

Received High Ratings in Various Indicators Including Sustainable Forest Resource Development

[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 21st that it was selected as an excellent institution in the 'Joint Government Evaluation of Local Governments in the Forestry Sector' organized by the Korea Forest Service.

With this selection as an excellent institution, the county will receive a commendation from the Korea Forest Service along with a monetary award. This marks the second consecutive year of being selected, following last year's top institution award in the comprehensive forestry administration evaluation, solidifying its status as the leading institution in forestry administration.

This evaluation assessed eight indicators including ▲forest protection enforcement and restoration ▲landslide prevention and response system establishment ▲achievement of sustainable forest resource development ▲forest fire prevention performance ▲forest pest control, among others. Damyang County achieved high performance by ranking first in more than three indicators.

In particular, the county received excellent evaluations for proactive forestry administration efforts such as pre-rainy season construction of erosion control facilities to prevent landslides, reduction of fine dust through afforestation projects around residential areas, and active forest fire prevention and publicity activities.

A county official stated, “This selection as an excellent institution is the result of all employees working together to restore damage caused by heavy rains and protect forests.” He added, “We will continue to contribute to creating an ecological garden city that embraces nature by establishing forests to respond to climate change and building systems to respond to landslides and forest fires.”
