[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the 21st, the Changwon City Special City Launch Preparation Team in Gyeongnam visited the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee and requested active efforts to ensure that substantial special authority is granted in line with the official launch of the special city.

The preparation team pointed out, "For the successful launch of the special city in 2022, special authority commensurate with its scale must be granted; however, substantial authority transfer has not been properly implemented to date."

In July, the preparation team formed the Special City Support Council to review the tasks proposed by the four special cities, and, along with inquiries to related ministries and agencies, sent the matters to the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee to request prompt transfer review.

The preparation team emphasized, "Considering that less than three months remain until the official launch of the special city, it is urgent to grant special authority through prompt review of special city tasks," adding, "At this point, the role of the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee, which holds the legal authority for authority transfer, is very important."

Accordingly, the preparation team visited the National Special City Mayors' Association to discuss securing special authority through amendments to the Autonomy and Decentralization Act and also reviewed the progress of the National Assembly members' meetings.

Seo Jeong-guk, Director of the Autonomy Administration Bureau, said, "There may be disputes over authority transfer regarding special city tasks among related ministries, but for tasks deemed appropriate for special cities, we hope the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee will actively play a role to ensure authority is actively transferred."
