'Engineer Technology Conference' Sharing Technology Development Achievements and Know-How
Seon Gang Equipment Department Employee Hancheol Jeon Wins Best Award
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Jiyong) announced on the 21st that it held the ‘2021 Engineer Technology Conference’ at the Gwangyang Steelworks Headquarters Auditorium on the 20th.
The grand prize was awarded to Jeon Hancheol, an employee of the Continuous Casting Equipment Department.
The Engineer Technology Conference is an event where engineers from various departments of the steelworks share achievements in solving diverse technical problems and know-how in technology development. Gwangyang Steelworks holds this conference annually to invigorate and motivate engineers in their technological development.
About 50 people, including Kim Jiyong, Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, the deputy director, presenting engineers, and steelworks staff, attended the event to brighten the occasion.
In particular, using break times, the event added excitement by preparing interesting surprise quizzes on key points for creating a warm workplace through mutual consideration and understanding among employees in the encouragement community culture of Gwangyang Steelworks, as well as for ensuring a safe working environment.
Nine engineers selected through preliminary rounds presented the technologies they developed and improvement achievements. The judges evaluated based on △technical merit △individual contribution △improvement effect, selecting one grand prize, two excellence awards, and six encouragement awards.
The grand prize was awarded to Jeon Hancheol of the Continuous Casting Equipment Department for establishing the ‘Smart Failure Prediction System for Continuous Casting Equipment.’ Based on integrated data management and visualization of continuous casting equipment, the system enables unmanned equipment inspection and real-time equipment monitoring.
The excellence awards were given to Baek Jongse, assistant manager of the Steelmaking Department, and Shin Hoseop, employee of the Steelmaking Department.
Jeon Hancheol of the Continuous Casting Equipment Department said, “I am pleased that establishing the Smart Failure Prediction System has made equipment inspection safer,” and added, “I will continue to develop the system and strive to apply the failure prediction system to other processes.”
Kim Jiyong, Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said in his remarks, “Through this experience, I believe engineers have learned about the roles, functions, and relationships with surrounding departments and colleagues, and how to actively utilize company resources,” and added, “I sincerely hope you will grow into the best leaders by gaining diverse experiences and demonstrating your capabilities at Gwangyang Steelworks, the world’s best steelworks.”
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks plans to continue growing as a respected 100-year company by actively supporting technology sharing and capacity enhancement among employees, such as holding smart technology competitions that share achievements developed by applying various smart technologies to field know-how, in addition to the Engineer Technology Conference, to realize a smart steelworks.
