[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Hyundai Engineering announced on the 21st that it will hold the ‘Smart Technology Conference,’ which shares the development achievements of smart engineering and smart construction technologies as well as the latest smart technologies, in an online non-face-to-face format.

The conference, held until the 22nd, focuses on the main themes of ‘design automation and optimization’ and ‘unmanned and modular construction,’ sharing advancements in engineering technology and productivity improvements through artificial intelligence (AI) and data digitization technologies. The smart construction sector is organized around modular design and manufacturing, construction equipment automation, and the development status and application cases of OSC (Off-Site Construction) technology. Additionally, an external expert session is arranged to explore technology trends and applied technologies in smart construction and AI fields, offering a variety of sessions.

In June, Hyundai Engineering expanded its technology development organization into the ‘Smart Technology Center.’ This consolidation of technology development functions across business sectors strengthens the company-wide smart technology integration organization to secure smart construction technologies and maximize technology utilization synergy. Through this, the company actively utilizes core technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution such as △smart construction technology △OSC & modular △AI design automation △data platform establishment to develop integrated smart technologies applicable across all businesses including plants, architecture, and infrastructure, and to expand their application on-site.

Furthermore, Hyundai Engineering has developed its own ‘AI Steel Structure Automatic Design System’ and is expanding AI technology application across its business areas. It also operates a dedicated ‘AI Technology Development Team’ to develop and utilize AI technologies in the construction sector.

Alongside this, the company is actively pursuing smart construction technology acquisition through an open innovation strategy. It supports smart construction technology startups with approximately 2 billion KRW in research funding to jointly develop smart construction technologies such as △BIM △drones △3D scanning △construction robots.

The company plans to secure differentiated technological competitiveness by expanding the application of key Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as AI, big data, machine learning, and robotics throughout the construction industry.
