Jeju Fire Department Volunteer Fire Brigade Plays Key Role as Local Safety Guardians

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Park Geun-oh) is leading the role of local safety guardians with volunteer fire brigade professional instructors who are certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and life safety.

According to the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters on the 21st, there are a total of 631 volunteer fire brigade members who have obtained professional instructor qualifications in the province.

They also operate elderly care services that provide life-oriented safety services such as health consultations, life safety education, and home safety inspections for elderly people living alone aged 65 and over.

By discovering community-tailored special policies such as emergency first aid education for haenyeo (female divers) and safety education at senior centers, they are expanding the activity areas of professional instructors and effectively spreading a culture of safety throughout the province while fulfilling their role as safety guardians.

Meanwhile, on the 20th, the ‘2021 Provincial Volunteer Fire Brigade Lecture Contest’ was held to strengthen the capabilities of volunteer fire brigade professional instructors.

At the contest, 12 volunteer fire brigade members from 8 teams composed of professional instructors in the fields of life safety and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, representing 4 fire stations, participated and demonstrated their honed skills to the fullest.

In the life safety category, Song Mi-young from the Yeodo Women's Team of Jeju Fire Station won the grand prize, and in the cardiopulmonary resuscitation category, Oh Se-young and Lee Seong-eun from the Male Team of Mureung, Seobu Fire Station, won the grand prize. They will represent Jeju at the national volunteer fire brigade lecture contest hosted by the Fire Agency next month.

Park Geun-oh, head of the Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “Volunteer fire brigade professional instructors are expanding local safety activities while strengthening their professional capabilities through the lecture contest. We will continue to actively support the cultivation of capable professional instructors so that they can fulfill their role as local safety guardians.”
