LG Creates 39,000 Youth Jobs Over 3 Years... Kim Bu-gyeom Calls It "Investment for Korea's Future"

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seonhee] LG Group has decided to directly hire 30,000 young people over the next three years. In addition, through investments of 150 billion KRW in startups and industry-academia-research collaboration programs, it plans to create a total of 39,000 jobs.


The government and LG Group signed a partnership for the "Youth Hope ON Project" with these details and announced the youth job creation plan on the afternoon of the 21st at LG Science Park in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. On the government side, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum and Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Koo Yoon-cheol attended, while LG Group was represented by Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo, President of LG Science Park Park Il-pyung, and President Lee Bang-su, among others.


LG Group plans to directly hire 10,000 people annually for a total of 30,000 over the next three years. This represents about a 10% increase compared to the existing hiring scale.


Furthermore, LG Connect, Open Lab, and other startup sectors will receive investments totaling 150 billion KRW to create approximately 2,000 jobs over the next three years. The industry-academia-research collaboration programs, such as the "Employment Contract Departments," will be expanded to majors including batteries and artificial intelligence to create 5,800 jobs. Additionally, through ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) programs like "LG Social Campus" and the "Local Value-Up Program," 1,200 youth jobs will be created respectively. LG explained that this is expected to have a total job creation effect of 9,000 jobs, adding 3,000 more to the existing 6,000.


This partnership signing is the third, following KT and Samsung. The total number of youth jobs promised to be created by the three companies is 81,000.


In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Kim said, "I am grateful that LG has responded greatly to the youth job project," and added, "Let us, the government and companies, join forces to increase youth jobs and invest in the future of the Republic of Korea." He also mentioned that policies for customized youth talent development and activation of youth technology startups will be announced soon.
