[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The LINC+ Project Group (Director Lee Sang-chan) of Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) is recreating the ‘Saeujae Hakdang’ from 200 years ago under the theme of ‘History and Future of Namdo Tea’ every Friday at 2 p.m. from the 15th of last month to the 12th of next month in the multipurpose room of Gangjin Cultural Center.
According to Mokpo National University on the 21st, ‘Saeujae Hakdang,’ a humanities tea gathering enjoyed with strangers at travel destinations, is being recreated in Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, the first exile site of Dasan.
Held for the fourth time in Gangjin, the number one Namdo exploration site, Saeujae Hakdang is conducted in the form of ‘framily social teaming’ by Mokpo National University LINC+ Project Group and Gangjin Cultural Center (Director Hwang Ho-yong).
‘Framily’ is a compound word of friend and family, meaning ‘friends like family,’ and ‘social teaming’ refers to a tea gathering. This means a meeting where family and strangers become friends like family through tea gatherings in an era of diversity.
On the 15th, Saeujae Hakdang featured a lecture titled ‘The Friendship and Tea of Dasan, Choi, and Hwangsang’ by Professor Song Hae-kyung (Department of Tea Culture Management) of Wonkwang Digital University. On the 22nd, lawyer Park Hyung-sang will give a lecture on ‘Tea Culture of Jangheung-gun Centered on Cheongwansan,’ on the 29th, Kim Jong-chul, Research Director of Hadong Green Tea Research Institute, will discuss ‘Scientific Understanding and Restoration of Fermented Tea,’ on the 5th of next month, Professor Lee Hyun-jung (Department of International Tea Culture Science) of Mokpo National University will present ‘Joseon Dynasty Tea Processing Methods through Literature,’ and on the 12th, Professor Kim Dae-ho (Jirisan Area Research Institute, Suncheon National University) will lecture on ‘The Present and Future of Gangjin and Jangheung Tea Seen through Big Data.’
Lee Sang-chan, Director of Mokpo National University LINC+ Project Group, said, “Starting with the ‘Framily Social Teaming Travel’ in 2019, we have conducted Dasan’s tea gatherings, Hwangsang’s tea gatherings, and Saeujae Hakdang to reestablish the foundation of Gangjin studies sown 200 years ago. We hope that the humanities tea gatherings encountered during travels will become an alternative cultural tourism with local residents in the COVID-19 era.”
Hwang Ho-yong, Director of Gangjin Cultural Center, stated, “Through this year’s theme of the history and future of Namdo tea, we hope that Namdo’s status as the center of Korean tea will stand tall and that Gangjin’s tea culture and industry will gain new vitality.”
Meanwhile, Mokpo National University LINC+ Project Group, centered on the Namdo Cultural Renaissance RCC, is jointly carrying out various regional innovation projects with universities and public-private sectors to spread and develop local culture. In particular, it contributes to regional cultural development through diverse events such as theatrical performances and village decoration for local residents.
