Yongin City Adds 35-Space 'Cargo Truck Exclusive Parking Lot'

[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has embarked on creating a dedicated parking lot for cargo trucks to resolve the chronic shortage of parking spaces for cargo trucks.

Yongin City announced on the 21st that it recently started construction to create a temporary cargo truck parking lot on the closed road of Local Route 57 near Mapyeong Intersection (around 266-22, Mapyeong-dong, Cheoin-gu).

The city will create 35 parking spaces for cargo trucks at this location.

This is the second achievement following the expansion of 17 dedicated cargo truck parking spaces (total 30 spaces) at the Yeokbuk Ramp public parking lot last August.

Mapyeong Intersection is where National Routes 42 and 45 intersect with Local Route 57, and due to delays in the opening of Local Route 57, some sections such as bridges have been left as idle spaces.

The city plans to complete road surface painting and other construction next month, then accept usage applications from cargo truck owners to officially operate the parking lot.

A barrier gate will be installed here to prevent entry of unregistered cargo vehicles and long-term parking.

Currently, Yongin City operates 12 dedicated public parking lots for cargo trucks, including Bojeong-dong public parking lot and Myongji University parking lot, with a total capacity of 397 vehicles.

A city official said, "We will combine guidance and enforcement so that cargo trucks can use dedicated parking lots instead of parking on the roadside," adding, "To this end, we plan to additionally identify national/public land or idle spaces along roadsides to secure more temporary parking lots dedicated to cargo trucks."
