[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Recently, disputes between neighbors due to noise complaints have been frequent, but a story that is the complete opposite has gained attention.
On the 20th, an online community 'Bobae Dream' posted a thread titled "Feeling good after meeting such a wonderful neighbor, so I’m sharing a little."
The author, A, who introduced herself as a mother of one child, said, "Not long ago, I harvested the first persimmons from my parents' home and wanted to express my gratitude to the grandfather living downstairs who has never once gotten upset despite my child stomping around and having friends over every weekend."
She continued, "This year as well, I knocked on his door with a handwritten letter and persimmons to say thank you and to show him my child's face, but he wasn’t home," adding, "So I gently left them at the door."
The letter A shared read, "My child was sick for a while and was in the hospital, but after being discharged, friends come over every weekend, making noise and stomping around, yet you have never once come upstairs in two years. Rather, your kind words saying 'Kids will be kids' deeply moved me. I am grateful to have met such a good neighbor who helps my child grow up strong and upright."
After going out and returning home, A found bread and a letter left by the grandfather living downstairs in front of her door. The grandfather wrote, "Thank you every time. For an old man living alone, even noise is a comfort. Don’t worry."
A said, "There was the grandfather’s grateful heart and a gift," adding, "The bread was filled with items that young people these days would like, and I was touched thinking, 'He must have carefully and thoughtfully chosen these.'"
She continued, "I really met wonderful neighbors. Usually, the grandfather, grandmother, aunts, and uncles in the neighborhood warmly greet my child and share food with each other, so I thought this place is not yet cold and desolate," concluding, "Meeting such good neighbors makes me believe my child can grow up bright and healthy."
