[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Administrative agencies and the local education support office have joined hands to save small schools in rural areas of Miryang.
On the 20th, Miryang City, Gyeongnam Province, and the Miryang Office of Education signed a business agreement at the city hall to support small schools.
This agreement was prepared to carry out the 'Saving Small Schools' project, which is sustainable by supporting distinctive educational programs that leverage the strengths of small schools in rural areas.
According to the agreement, the city will provide educational expenses to operate distinctive educational programs, and the education support office will establish and operate a student-centered curriculum tailored to the local conditions.
The target schools include 11 schools, including Sungjin Elementary School, where the metropolitan school district system is implemented allowing free transfer and enrollment from nearby urban areas without changing the address, and schools with a total enrollment of 60 students or fewer.
Mayor Park Il-ho said, "Interest in small schools in the local community is increasing day by day," and added, "We will actively support the success of the small school saving project where schools and the community coexist through cooperation between the two institutions."
